One of history’s most famous bearers was Bogdan Khmelnytsky, the 17th-century Cossack leader who led a major uprising against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and his name lives on in the Ukrainian city of Khmelnytskyi (formerly Proskurov).
